Our Very First Trip – Silverdale, Lancashire

Well, we’ve only gone and done it!!! We bought a motorhome!! I cannot believe how excited I am and how much I am looking forward to new adventures. Paul and I were ready for an adventure this year, after a difficult few months, following my hiking accident, (I slipped on ice last year and broke my tibia, fibula and ankle).

It was very traumatic, I had to be rescued by 2 mountain rescue teams’ I was in so much pain and after sitting for 2 hours in zero temperatures, hypothermia set in!  I then spent 2 weeks in hospital, had surgery on my leg and a metal rod installed with an 18-week recovery plan. I feel ready to engage in life fully again and have some fun and some new adventures.

We have named our Motorhome Gladys, in memory of my beloved and long departed mum. It gives me confidence to know that she will be with us on journeys and I feel sure she will be looking out for us.

We picked Gladys up in Carlisle on Friday, and then headed to Silverdale for the weekend, accompanied by my lovely brother and sister-in-law!!

We pitched up and didn’t have a clue what we were doing but people on the site seemed so friendly and ready to give advice and some tips!

We have so much to learn over the coming months but I am more excited about these little trips around the UK in Gladys than I have been about travelling to 5* resorts in Italy, Madeira and other European destinations!! Done that so many times, I am ready for something different.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first weekend adventure on the Lancashire Coast, the scenery is beautiful countryside and sea as well.  It was a bit cold but stayed dry. The worst bit was we got totally lost on our way back to the site after having a delicious meal with our family at a local pub!

We did about 15k steps (a journey that should have taken us 20 minutes), trying to find our way back in complete darkness with a little torch and a phone that was very quickly running out of battery, gps was sending us down lots of dark alleys leading nowhere but dead ends and peoples’ gardens.

As time went on, we could see the phone battery going down from 15% to 10% to in the end 1% and being 37 minutes away from the site, we started to get a bit anxious however I did feel that there was an invisible light guiding us and somehow, I knew we would make it back safely – which we did 2 hours later

Once back at the van, it was definitely time for a glass of wine.  I was in a lot of pain with my leg (the one I had broken) as we had been walking at a very fast pace to try and find our way before the phone died!

The pain was pretty bad and as I don’t take painkillers, I wondered what I could do, then……..I had a brainwave, I got my pendulum out ( I had cleared the energy in the van earlier with it) and proceeded to scramble the frequency of the pain, within seconds, the pain left me and did not return! Wow!! Talk about divine inspiration, I am still always in awe when these kind of things happen – even after being on a spiritual path for so many years.  Well, we certainly had someone guiding us that night! I suspect mum had something to do with it!!

I’ve been dowsing for many years (dowsing, if you are not familiar with it, for me, is a spiritual practice of moving and clearing energy), it an ancient practice and was used for hundreds of years to find water. I’ve been using dowsing as a tool for many years but have never cured pain that way before. My dowsing teacher always says, if you do something, it might work, if you do nothing, it definitely won’t, so I tried it and it worked! one thing is for sure, my pendulum will be joining us on all our future adventures

So what did i learn on this first trip, I know i am going to love this type of holiday for a while at least. Will definitely be spending more time outdoors which is geat, and it has certainly taken both Paul and I way out of our comfort zone! It’s a complete change from coaching and studying which is how i spend most of my time.

Next important job is finding a suitable water filter to use in the van, if anyone has any recommendations, please do feel free to share.

Can’t wait to find out what next weekend has in store for us!! The world is our oyster now with Gladys.
